

Pat served in the US Army National Guard from 1957-1965. He received a BA in Education Business from Evansville College and a MS in Education from Indiana University. Pat taught business and marketing at Central High School and taught several years at Harrison High School. He was also an adjunct professor at UE and a lecturer at Ivy Tech. He retired from the EVSC after 34 years of service. While he was at Central, Pat served as the head of DECA and received both the Outstanding DECA Advisor Service Award and the DECA Service Award. During the summers, he worked at Ellis Park as a money room counter. After retirement from EVSC, Pat then worked for Casino Aztar as a bus greeter, and was awarded Crewmember of the Month in 1997.
Pat was proud to serve as a volunteer for many years at USI. He served as Varsity Club Chairman of Golf Outings and the Varsity Club Board of Directors for 12 years. In 2003, Pat received the USI Volunteer of the Year Award.
Most recently, Pat was a member of St. James West Church. His faith was of the utmost importance. In previous years, he served in a number of capacities at church and was honored to have taught Sunday School.
Besides his passion for his faith, Pat fiercely loved life, his family, giving to others, telling stories and Oreo cookies.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Pauline Goen; first wife of 40 years, Judy (Williams) Goen; and an infant sister.
Pat is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Kathi (Dills) Goen; children, Dr. T. Michael Goen (Sandy), Robin Lannert (Dennis), Kaitlin Clayton (Chris), and Kameron McCoy (Chloe); grandchildren, Stefanie Delinois (Pierre), Patrick Goen, Rebecca Goen, Nicholas Lannert (Kourtney), Corey Lannert (Katie), Christopher Clayton (Kally), Jaydan Clayton, Coleby Clayton, Wyatt Clayton, Carter Clayton, Talon McCoy, Nash McCoy and Maverick McCoy; 11 great-grandchildren with one on the way; brothers, Jim Goen (Sandy) and Ike Goen; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, and faithful canine companion, Brutus.

A celebration of life service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois Street in Evansville, officiated by Pastor Gene Backes.
Friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
