Obituary of Pauline Brown
Pauline Percell-Compton Brown was born in Rockport (Lake Mill) on July 26, 1919 amid 2 Pandemics; The Bubonic and Spanish Flu plagues, to the late Rev. Stanley and Clesta (Lindsey) Percell. Pauline professed a hope in Christ at an early age at the Smithfield Baptist Church. As a young girl, she gave plays at the Mackey Chapel Methodist Church but gave the proceeds to her church. She taught Sunday school and was director of the Intermediate Choir. With 50 cent lessons, she groomed her daughter, Clesta Lanita, to play piano from age 5 with local teachers and the Evansville College music department. During WWII she was united in marriage to the late James Wm.“Wick” Compton and from this union, Clesta Lanita Compton was born.. Her passion was going to movies and raising flowers. Her profession was in childcare where she helped raise children who were not her own. The late Judy Bea and Nancy Thurman of Rockport. In 1957 she united in marriage to Deacon Isaac Monroe Brown Sr., and blessed her only child with a brother, Isaac M. Brown Jr. and two sisters, Patricia and Leila. Pauline moved to Owensboro, KY and joined the Tenth Street Baptist Church where she was the Superintendent of Sunday School for 15 years and was on the Mother’s Board for 30 years, Bouleware Board, and took the youth to local bible schools, award competitions, and on annual trips to Holiday World. She was everyone’s “Aunt Pauline.” She was employed by the Walker Meacham family for 30 years. While they worked, she raised Tom, Bob, and baby Martha. The last few years she found joy in holding and seeing her great-great-grandchildren, twins, Isaiah and Immanuel, her great-grandson, Warren “Trey” Hardin Pate (Noor), and Jaylee Rene, great-granddaughter of Stanley James Wilson (Summer). Pauline left her earthly home at 6:45 a.m. on September 15, 2020 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN, walking prayerfully through fields of flowers she so loved, to her heavenly home. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert Percell. She leaves to mourn, daughters, Clesta Lanita Compton of Rockport, IN, Patricia Ann Jones (Anthony) of Indianapolis, IN and Leila Faye Taylor (Joe) of Owensboro, KY; sons, Isaac Jr. of Indianapolis, IN, William Henry Greer of Owensboro, KY and James Arthur of Germany; grandchildren, Tiffany Monique Wilson of Rockport, IN, Cherrod Diane Pate of Atlanta, GA, ReNeitha Jackson,of Owensboro, KY, Ashley Floyd of Indianapolis, IN, Warren “Trey” Hardin Pate (Noor) of Owensboro, KY, ReShawn McNary of Indianapolis, IN, Candace Montgomery of Charlotte, NC, Nicole James of Dallas, TX, Rosiland Brown and Alexa Rogers of St. Paul, MN, Andrea Cummins (Cory) and Anthony Jones Jr. (Latasha) of Indianapolis, IN; devoted niece, Tequita Ann Percell of Los Angels, CA and her son, Eldonn Chandler of; Sand Diego, CA, and a host of relatives, nieces, nephews, and friends. Special thanks to Nurses, Andrea, Wendy Laffette and Becky White. Shirley and Harvey Purcell for their weekly visits with chocolate and smiles. For prayers from Nephew John Humphrey, Nieces Beverly Terry and Belinda Halenburton. And Tom Shores Used Cars and David Leslie’s Automotive who kept “Ms. Daisy” driving. A Private Family Memorial Service will be held by her children post pandemic rules.
