Over the course of his life, Phil worked as a chef at the McCurdy Hotel in Evansville, drove a semi truck, was a licensed welder and was an excellent maintenance technician. He retired from Louisville Tile. Phil enjoyed woodworking, family gatherings, and fixing things. Most of all, he loved spending time with his cat, Binx, who he swears he did not want.
Phil’s life was defined by hard work, devotion, humor, and a deep love for his family. His legacy will live in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
Phil is survived by his wife of 20 years, JoEllen Ellis, his son Jason Ellis (Kelli), his daughter Stacey Gray, his step daughter Megan Skeels (Matt), his sister, Mary Lou Ellis, and his brother Bob Brown (Ellan). He was the best Papaw to Kimberlee, Dylan, Makayla, River, Jase, Kaleb, and Logan, and was lucky enough to be a great grandpa as well.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Ellis, his parents Otto and Alice Ellis, and a sister, Wanda Josette Higgins.
