

Dean possessed a kind and compassionate heart, always extending a helping hand to those in need. Despite being one of twelve siblings, she displayed a remarkable sense of responsibility, caring deeply for her family throughout her life. She was a vibrant and active individual who embraced life with enthusiasm. Dean had an exceptional ability to connect with people, viewing everyone as either close family or cherished friends. One of her greatest joys was baking delicious birthday cakes for her friends, spreading sweetness and cheer on their special days.
Educated at Lockyear Business College and the University of Evansville, Dean achieved professional success while nurturing her artistic passions. A gifted pianist, she generously shared her musical talents by serving as organist and pianist as a lifetime member of Pleasant Chapel General Baptist Church. Dean was also honored to hold her insurance license for over 40 years.
She is survived by her two children, Shari Short and Robert E. (Lori) Baggett Jr.; Matt Short; five grandchildren, Chazlen (Taylor) Short, Kaylee (Ryan) Bischke, Mashae (Mario) Turi, Kyler RJ Baggett, and Treston (Eva) Short; and seven great-grandchildren, Draelia, Luciana, Giavella, Roselina, Vincenzo, Bianca Turi, and Zyan Bischke; brother, David "Cork" Hurt Sr., and sister-in-law, Betty Hurt. She is also survived by her loving companion, Jerry Millard.
Dean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert E. Baggett Sr.; and her siblings, Irma Paradise, Urma (Raymond), Rev. Cecil, Lena (Tarrell), Jack (Sonya), Denzil, Mary Jane, Cleatus, William, and Wayne Sr. Hurt.
Visitation will be held at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois St. on Monday, January 13, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and again the following day on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Chapel General Baptist Church, 1305 W. Florida St., Evansville, IN, followed by the Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. Dean’s final resting place will be at Bates Hill Cemetery.
