Ralph M. Barchet

Ralph Barchet, of Evansville, entered eternal life at West River Health Campus on September 5, 2026. He was born in 1943 to the late Florence and Melvin Barchet. He attended Reitz High School and the University of Evansville.

He began his career at Whirlpool Corporation in 1963 and remained with the company until his retirement in 1997 after 37 years of loyal service. Outside of work, the family treasured countless trips to Amelia Island over the past 45 years, creating a lifetime of happy memories together. Following his time at Whirlpool, he thoroughly enjoyed driving a school bus for EVSC, bringing joy to many lucky kids for 10 years.

He was an active member of the Whirlpool Management Club, German Township Booster Club, German Township Volunteer Fire Department, R Men's Club, The Kennel Club, and Precinct Committee Chair. He loved competition, especially the sports his children and grandchildren were involved in, and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Purdue University. In his earlier years, he was a member of several nationally ranked softball teams. He continued that passion by coaching multiple youth teams at German Township, including his daughters' softball teams. Coaching those teams brought endless happy memories and built a wonderful circle of parents who became lifelong friends.

In addition to his wife of 64 years, Betty, he is survived by his daughters, Lisa (John) O'Reilly and Barb (Bill) Hoover, and his grandchildren, Claire and Owen O’Reilly and Luke and Paige Hoover, in whom he took endless joy and immense pride.

The family would like to thank the staff at West River and Heart to Heart Hospice for their compassionate care.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at Alexander Memorial Park - Heritage Chapel, 2200 Mesker Park Dr. Evansville, IN 47720. Friends and family may visit from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the cemetery chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the German Township Booster Club, 5200 Big Cynthiana Rd. Evansville, IN 47720.
