Obituary of Ralph William Woehler
Ralph William Woehler came alive to Ralph R. and Frieda A. Schultze Woehler on November 5, 1935 in Evansville. On April 29, 2024 he did not continue to thrive. His education was at Emma Roach Elementary and F. J. Reitz High School. Undergraduate studies were at Evansville College and Indiana State Teachers College. His first induction was into PI Omega PI-Business Education Honorary. The second one was into the U.S. Army. He said he got caught in a draft from which he barely survived its effects! I.U. and I. S. U. were graduate study sites. Ralph's "Friends and Neighbors" insisted on him serving our country. So, he was drafted into the U.S. Army for the six-year obligation-two active, two reserve, and two stand by duty years. Ft. Knox, Ky was the active-duty location; reserve meetings were in Fremont, OH. He began his 30-year teaching career at Thompson High School in Bellevue (Fireside) OH. In an attempt to get closer to home he then went to Emerson High School in Gary, IN. The remainder of his time was spent in Evansville at Bosse, Harrison and Central Schools. Ralph was involved for a 30-year period at Mesker Park Zoo Botanic Garden. Serving on the Board of Directors found him as Treasurer of the group called Evansville Zoological Society and then Friends of Mesker Park Zoo. The then Director-John Zara-suggested the Society undertake the establishment of the gift shop. David Schmitt, President, Madeleine Schmitt, Membership Chairperson, and he got one started. Ralph served as manager of it for years and finally just volunteering in it. After retirement he began working in the food pantry at St. Matthews U.C.C that was a 30+ year endeavor. Zion Evangelical U.C.C. participation included service on several boards, mainly the Church Council in which he utilized his shorthand skills as secretary. He both sang and rang in the choirs. With the exception of one year, he was in the Evansville Ecumenical Choir under directors, Benjamin Boyer and Daniel Craig during its existence. His parents preceded him in death as did two cousins, Doris Schultze Lineberry Wyble and Carol Meisler Wildridge and an infant brother. Survivors include his sister, Linda Woehler Roush (Edward) of Franklin, IN and nieces, Erin Roush Swisher (Brian) and Jackson also of Franklin and Andrea Roush Martin (Elgin) and Addison and Kirsten of Bargersville IN. Cousins are Ronald Meisler (Carolyn) of Longmont, CO, Cynthia Woehler Weiland (George) of Newburgh, Susan Woehler Hamilton (Charles) of Lexington, KY, Alice Woehler Russo (Enzo), Allen Woehler (Jan), and Donald Woehler (Joyce) all of Evansville, Jacquelyn Schultze of Schaumburg, IL, Dr. Diane Schultze Leland (Dr. James) of Indianapolis and Dr. A. Eric Schultze (Dr. Marcia Kolvitz) also of Indianapolis, IN Services at Alexander North in Evansville, 4200 Stringtown Rd. Visitation will occur from 4pm to 8pm on Thursday, May 9, 2024 with the funeral on Friday, May 10, 2024 at 10am central time. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
