

Ray was born in Saline County, IL, April 16, 1923 to Ernest Raymond and Winnie (Miller) Jones.
Ray attended Naval Preparatory School, War Training Flight School, U.S. Navy Pre-Flight School, and Advanced Navigation School. In August 1945 he was sent to Corpus Cristi, TX, as a Navigation Instructor. He attained the rank of First Lieutenant. He was released from the active Navy to the Reserves in August 1946.
After returning to Indiana, Ray enrolled in Indiana State University. It was there that he met June Carol Beldon. They were married November 28, 1947. Ray received his B.S. degree in 1948. He received his M.S. degree from Indiana University, Bloomington in 1953.
After retiring from EVSC in 1985, Ray began working with stained glass. He made the windows for Salem UMC where he had been a member since 1964. Ray loved flying. He stayed in the active Naval Air Reserve for 30 years and retired in 1975 as a Commander.
Services were held Friday, May 4, 2012 at Salem UMC, officiated by Rev. Randy Anderson with burial at Locust Hill Cemetery. Friends visited Thursday at Alexander North Chapel and on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
