

Raymond “Ray” P. Schroeder, 90, of Evansville, passed away Friday, February 7, 2014, at Pine Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born November 21, 1923, in Posey County to the late Albert and Mathilda (Jung) Schroeder.
He was a life-long member of Zoar United Church of Christ, where he was one of three lifetime Trustees, former church treasurer, president, Sunday school teacher and choir member. He was a former employee of Mead Johnson, had worked with his brother at Schroeder Brick & Stone, retired from Babcock & Wilcox and farmed the home acreage all his life. Ray was a 4-H Leader and Fair Board Treasurer. He was an Army Veteran serving in the 359th Engineer Regiment during WWII. He was also a Robinson Twp. Trustee, a volunteer and board member of the United Caring Shelter and a member of the Young at Heart Group.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Gertrude Lewis.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Wilma “Jean” (DaVault) Schroeder of Evansville; son, Rev. Daniel R. Schroeder (Jennifer) of West Orange, NJ; daughters, Diane Kay Marheine (Bruce) of Sullivan, IN and Sharon Faye Lawson (Bruce) of Evansville; grandchildren, Benjamin and Joshua Schroeder, Richard Marheine, Tamara Chastain and Luke and Makenzie Lawson; five great-grandchildren, Eli, Carson, Timothy, Grace and Jasper; and brothers, Harold Schroeder of Evansville and David Schroeder of Wadesville, IN.
Services will be 10:00 AM Monday, February 10, 2014, at Zoar United Church of Christ, 4600 Church Road, officiated by Rev. John Motz and Rev. Dan Schroeder, with burial in Zoar UCC Cemetery. Friends may visit Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 West Illinois Street, and Monday from 9:00 AM until service time at the church.
The family would like to thank Unit 2600 at Deaconess Hospital, Pine Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center and Heritage Hospice for their loving care of Ray.
