

Richard Rex Ray, 91, of Evansville, passed away Monday, March 6, 2017, at River Pointe Health Campus. He was born January 16, 1926, at home in Tangier, IN, to the late Dolph and Mary M. (Jackson) Ray.
He was a US Navy Veteran, serving on the USS Bataan Aircraft Carrier in World War II during the Saipan, Okinawa, and Coral Sea Conflicts. Richard owned neighborhood grocery stores in Evansville before becoming a Roll Shop Supervisor for Alcoa Industries, retiring after 25 years of service. He enjoyed horse racing, fishing, and hunting.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Ray.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia (Mattingly) Ray; daughters, Linda S. (Mike) Williams and Sarah R. (Russell) Carlisle; son, Dr. Barry W. (Sharon) Ray; grandchildren, Whitney (John) Ray Scott, Emily Marie Ray, Spencer Ray, Darby Ray, Andrew Carlisle, and Katie Carlisle; and great-grandchildren, Waylon and Wyatt Scott and Annabelle and Caroline Carlisle.
