

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and truly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was an active member of Vann Avenue Baptist Church where he was a Deacon for 38 years. He worked at the Evansville Shipyard for three years helping to build LSTs as a pipefitter, and then later retired from the Sheet Metal Workers Union, Local #20, after 60 years. For fifty years he enjoyed fishing and camping at Scales Lake. He was proud to have visited 48 states with his wife. He enjoyed playing cards at Washington Square Mall and watching the horses run at Ellis Park.
Bob’s family extends a special thanks to his daughter, Nancy Osborn, who devoted the last two years caring for him, and to the staffs at Columbia Healthcare Center and Gentiva Hospice for their wonderful care.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, G. Jean Benjamin; daughter, Judith Martin; brothers, John and Gene; and his parents.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Dwight) Osborn; grandchildren, Tina (Gregory) Harlow, Rick Cowe, Teresa Gunn and Rob (Amanda) Martin; great-grandchildren, Charish (Josh) Draper, Melanie Gunn, Danielle and Erin Harlow, Drake and Tiffany Duncan, and Alexis and Madison Martin; great great-grandchildren, Christian, Brionna, Brooklyn, Aaliyah, Nicholas and Amelia; sister, Patricia; and brothers, Jack and Don.
Services will be 11:00 AM Friday, January 24, 2014, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Rev. Glen Flowers, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit Thursday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM and Friday from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
