Robert O. Cutrell, 83, of Evansville, IN, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at the Linda E. White Hospice House. He was born on June 27, 1942, in Shawneetown, IL to the late Orville and Ethel (Smith) Cutrell.
Robert served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Rankin during the Cuban Missile Crisis in Cuba, answering a pivotal moment in history with steady resolve and a deep sense of duty. He later devoted 36 years to Cummins, retiring as a diesel mechanic after a long career marked by reliability, skill, and pride in work done well. In retirement, Robert continued working at Rural King and returned often to the satisfaction of woodworking—hands-on, practical, and quietly exacting in the way he approached the things he cared about.
Away from work, Robert found joy in the simple, enduring pleasures that bring people together. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed riding motorcycles and woodworking. A very talented carpenter, he built many pieces of furniture through the years—lasting, useful creations that reflected patience and craftsmanship. He especially loved playing cards, particularly rummy, with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and he held the title of reigning family champion. He also adored his beloved dogs, whose companionship brought comfort and happiness to everyday life.
Robert is survived by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn "Sissy" Cutrell; son, Robert E. Cutrell (Heather); daughter, Sandra Richardt (Nick); son, William Cutrell (Laura); grandchildren, Jamie Cutrell, Kyle Cutrell (Kelsey), Stacy Doane (James), David Richardt (Liz), Lauren Valdez (Chris) and Christian Cutrell; great grandchildren, Madelynn and Myles Cutrell, Jackson and Lincoln Cutrell, Nolan, Emmalynn and Charlotte Doane, Parker and Jack Richardt, Hunter and Harper Davis and Hudson Valdez; sisters, Anna McCormick and Wanda Embry; and nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jason Cutrell; and brother, Elvis Junior Cutrell.
