

He was a graduate of Bosse High School, the University of Evansville, and Indiana University School of Medicine, with hospital training in eye surgery in New York, Baltimore, Detroit, and Champaign.
At the University of Evansville he was voted Campus Notable and Campus Leader. He was editor of UE’s Newspaper, “The Crescent” and a member of the debate team.
He was an Eagle Scout.
Dr. Fenneman was awarded the University of Evansville Alumni Achievement Award, and he was a member of the University of Evansville Board of Trustees for seven years. He served one year as president of the Alumni Association.
In 1975 he was president of Downtown Kiwanis. He became active in M.A.D.D. (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) in 1984, monitoring Misdemeanor Courts for M.A.D.D.
He was director of the American Red Cross for three years, former member of the board of directors of the Evansville Blind Association, and a member of the Songfellows (barber shoppers) for several decades. He also collected classic and antique cars.
Dr. Fenneman was a Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a member of Phi Beta Pi Tau Kappa Alpha, and Lambda Chi Alpha fraternities.
A lifetime member of The Methodist Temple, he served six years as a trustee.
He was a member of the Vanderburgh County, Indiana, and American Medical Associations, the Indiana State Ophthalmology Society, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Fenneman was a former member of the Kennel Club and Evansville Country Club.
He was preceded by previous wives, Catherine (LeFevre) and Maybelle (Reichert); a brother, Owen; and parents, Frank and Irma (Rough) Fenneman.
Dr. Fenneman is survived by his wife, Carol Jean (Primm); four sons, Craig and wife, Mary of Martinsville, IN, Scott and wife, Jacqueline, Bob, Jr., and wife, Phyllis, Brian and wife, Darla, all of Evansville; and one daughter, Missy Fanok and husband, Tony of Newburgh, IN; sister-in-law, Colette Fenneman; 12 grandchildren, Katie, Brent, Emily, Valerie, Elyse, Sarah and Sam Fenneman, Amy Steele, Marci Moore, and Paige, Sophie, and Eli Fanok.
Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at Methodist Temple, 2109 Lincoln Avenue, officiated by Rev. Kevin McKinney, with entombment at Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Tuesday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Alexander East Chapel and Wednesday 10:00 AM until service time at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association, The Methodist Temple, or War Resisters League.
