

He was the third child of Weaver and Daisy (Knobeloch) Glenn of Perry Co., IN.
Robert graduated from Central High School in 1941, Evansville College in 1949 and the University of Evansville in 1969 with a Master’s Degree in Education. He retired from the Warrick County School Corporation after teaching for 24 years. He worked as a chemist before starting his teaching career at Serval and Arkla.
He was a Charter Member of the Community of Christ, formerly known as the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he served for 56 years as an Elder. Robert proudly served as a member of the Weekday Commission of the Evansville Area of the Community of Churches for 17 years supporting Christian Education for Elementary school children in the Vanderburgh County area.
Robert facilitated a support group for men whom had lost their spouses though cancer. This gave him a chance to help many men with their grief for 15 years. He was also a volunteer for Deaconess Hospice for over 20 years.
While serving in WWII, he worked as a surgical nurse in the operating room for the 186th General Hospital from “D Day” until the victorious end of the war.
As a WWII veteran, he organized an annual reunion for his hospital unit from 1994 to 2004. All reunions were held in Evansville, and doctors, nurses and enlisted personnel came from as far away as NY to CA, ND and FL.
He was a member of the Warrick County retired teachers and the Retired Teachers of Indiana. He was recognized in the “Who’s Who of Elementary Educators”.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene Burns Glenn; sisters, Kathryn Hamilton and Maxine Richardson; brother, Donald Glenn; and his parents.
He is survived by his sons, Rex (Janice) Burns II of Louisville, KY and Robert T. (Mary Willis) Burns of Evansville, IN; daughter in-law, Glenda Burns; grandchildren, David, Don, Darrin, Rex III, Victoria, Robert, Daniel, and Monica, Tim and Jim Willis; 15 great-grandchildren; and niece, Phyllis (Steve) Anderson of Evansville, IN; as well as many other nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit Thursday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM and Friday from 11:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. Services will be 1:00 PM Friday, February 7, 2014, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Elder Ron Sherrard, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park.
