Ron was born on October 4, 1946 in Eldorado, Illinois to the late Aubrey and Elizabeth Giles. Ron was a graduate of the University of Evansville where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, and he received a masters degree in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan. Some of his career highlights include designing radar systems for military aircraft at Naval Avionics in Indianapolis, Indiana, serving as the athletic director at Wabash Valley College in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, automating manufacturing and IT systems at General Electric Plastics in Mt. Vernon, Indiana, teaching at University of Evansville, and serving as Chief Information Officer at Oncology Hematology Associates in Evansville, Indiana.
Ron enjoyed many hobbies and interests and he was always cracking a joke. He was an avid nature photographer, a former president of the Southwestern Indiana Master Gardener Association in Evansville, Indiana, and a former trustee of the American Orchid Society. He was also a longtime Little League coach in Mt. Carmel and Belmont, Illinois. Ron was a member of Methodist Temple in Evansville, Indiana and former member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Sharon Giles; his sons, Jim Giles of Niwot, Colorado and Justin Giles of Nashville, Tennessee; daughters-in-law, Amy Giles and Lori Giles; and his grandchildren, Noah, Ian, Maya, and Evan Giles. He also leaves behind his faithful goldendoodle, Ginger. Ron will always hold a place in our heart and will be dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator.
