

Ronald Allen Phillips, born on July 20, 1931 passed away Tuesday morning, October 4, 2011 at St Mary’s Hospital following complications of a stroke. His family was at his bedside as he slipped from this life into his eternal life with the Lord.
He is survived by his wife of ten years, Barbara Gregory Phillips; son, Kenneth and wife Deb of Poseyville, IN; step-daughter, Nancy Strouse and husband Mark of Henderson, KY; one grandson, Michael Phillips; eight granddaughters, Chrissy Whoolery of Japan; Julie Tukpeyi and Veronica Whoolery of Evansville, Susan Kirtz of Chapel Hill, NC, Chelsea Hunter and Husband Casey of Newburgh, IN, Lindsey Malone and husband Josh of Valparaiso, IN, Whitney Gary, Ashley DeLong and husband Nick all of Henderson, KY; and five great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his big white Persian cat, Sampson, who brought him many hours of entertainment and amusement.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Estel & Ola M. Phillips. He was the youngest of five siblings, all who are deceased. Also preceding him in death was his daughter, Pam Phillips; step-daughter, Lori Gary; and step-son, Tony Kirtz.
He was a veteran of the Korean War and proud of his service to his Country.
Ron was employed by Redspot Glass in Evansville for 25 years prior to opening Poseyville Glass Company with his son, Kenny in 1976. He was retired for 22 years and enjoyed traveling.
He was a fifty year active member of Parke Memorial Presbyterian Church where he served on the Board of Elders, Deacons, The Session’s Governing Board, and as a Liturgist.
Ron was a long time member of several Cushman Clubs where he had many great friends. He collected, restored, showed, and rode the vintage bikes. He was amazing at fixing anything and never gave up till the project was completed.
Services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, October 7, 2011 at Alexander North Chapel on Stringtown Road, officiated by Dr. Ray Parker with internment at Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Ron’s family wants to, once again, express heartfelt gratitude to the fine Staff of St. Mary’s ICU, ER, and every person on the excellent and compassionate team of nurses and doctors who, with the Grace of God, saved Ron’s life last month. They left nothing un-done in an effort to make him comfortable and bring him back to us. He could not have received better care anywhere!
Expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, will be used at the family’s discretion to purchase a memorial for Ron in the Parke Memorial Church he loved so much.
