

Russell W. McLeod, 91, of Evansville, passed away early Sunday morning, August 4, 2024, at Hamilton Pointe in Newburgh, Indiana surrounded by his daughter Doris and granddaughter Victoria. He was born April 12, 1933 in Evansville, Indiana to the late Fred McLeod and Vera (Yourgans) McLeod.
At a young age, Russell worked on the family farm. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. As he became older, he switched to welding then delivering furniture at Finkes Furniture then at Kettles Furniture. Later in life, he worked part time at Rural King after retirement. When his late wife, Helen, became more ill, he retired completely to care for her.
He was not afraid to speak his mind. He loved showing his pictures of his vehicles to anyone that was interested. He loved anything Ford and collecting model cars. A couple of his past times included cutting his grass and sitting on the front porch to watch cars drive by. He grew fond of going to the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina during family summer vacations.
Russell was preceded in death by his late wife of 59 years, Helen (Hess) McLeod, sisters, June (McLeod) Jones, Joyce (McLeod) Eastridge, Charlotte (McLeod) Baumgart, and many lifelong friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Doris J. (Timothy M.) Jarred; granddaughter, Victoria A. Jarred, many nieces and nephews and many friends.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue, with Celebrant Carrie Hatchett officiating. Entombment will follow at Park Lawn Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted by the Retired Veterans Memorial Club. Friends and family may visit on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Alexander East Chapel.
In memory of Russell, the family requests memorial contributions be made to: Honor Flights of Southern Indiana, PO Box 8234, Evansville, IN 47716. Russell was very passionate about the services they do for veterans to visit Washington D.C. after he was able to go on a Honor Flight in May 2018.
