

She was born May 13, 1921, to Pearl Bender Atkinson and Roy Stanley Atkinson, their fifth child, at their home on the corner of Bayard Park Drive and Alvord. She was married April 14, 1950, to her late husband of 45 years, Ralph John Wahoski, Sr.
Ruth attended the University of Evansville, National Park College in Washington, D.C., and secretarial school at Katherine Gibbs School with her late sister, Martha Pearl DeJong, staying in Tudor City, New York, NY. She was a member of the Junior Service League of Evansville and a lifetime member of the Blue Bunnies.
She was a wonderful wife and mother. Her hobbies were cooking, needle point, knitting hats for preemies at St. Mary’s Medical Center, and reading newspapers for the Blind Association. She loved to travel, especially with her sister, Martha and husband. She attended Broadway plays with Martha and her husband in the summers when she lived out East.
Ruth was preceded in death by her brothers, William Fredrick and Stanley Bender Atkinson; sisters, Susanna Atkinson LaPlante and Martha Pearl DeJong; husband, Ralph John Wahoski, Sr.; oldest son, Ralph John Wahoski, Jr.; and daughter, Martha Helen Wahoski.
She is survived by her youngest son, Thomas B. Wahoski and his family, Lynn H. Wahoski, his wife of 31 years; his daughter, Sarah Lynn Wahoski and her daughter, Kyla Marie Minor; his son, John Stanley Wahoski; and his daughter-in-law, Shelia Wahoski.
A service to celebrate Ruth’s wonderful life will be 10:00 AM Monday, January 30, 2017, at Alexander East Chapel, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Kevin Fleming. Friends may visit Sunday from 2-4 pm and Monday from 9:30 AM until service time at the funeral home.
