Obituary of Sandra K. Anderson
Sandra Kaye Wampler gained her angel wings on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at the Linda E. White Hospice House. Sandy was born in Vincennes, Indiana on September 10,1945, to George Edward and Edith Emily Wampler. Sandy lived in Carlisle and Bruceville before moving to Evansville. She attended White and West Terrace Elementary Schools as well as F. J. Reitz High School, graduating in 1963. After graduation, she was offered a secretarial position at her alma mater. In 1964, Sandy met new teacher, Thomas Anderson. Sandy and Tom were married in December of 1965. In late 1969, Sandy resigned from her secretarial job to be a full-time wife and mother, as son, Steven was born in 1970. Even though Sandy was no longer employed by the school corporation, she could be found selling tickets at most of the Reitz athletic events for over 30 years. While Tom served as a Perry Township Volunteer Firefighter, Sandy was a member of the Firefighter’s Auxiliary, assisting in the activities of the fire department. Daughter, Amy, was born in 1975. During Steve and Amy’s elementary years, Sandy was involved with the PTA at both school and local levels. When Steve enrolled in 4H, Sandy and Tom became 4-H leaders. Sandy remained a club leader for over 25 years. She was superintendent of the Collections project for most of those years. Sandy worked as a bookkeeper and bookbinder in a printing business for former teacher, Ed Essex, while Steve and Amy were in school. She continued until Steve started college. Sandy did not miss a performance, game, or activity if Steve or Amy were involved. She became an avid UE Aces Men’s basketball fan when Steve was the student trainer of the team, even traveling to away games. She supported Amy’s traveling softball team, Kenny Kent Kids, and Amy’s years in marching band at Reitz and Southeast Missouri State University. Sandy was also an active member and officer of the 3 Arts Club where she enjoyed spending time with her friends and playing cards with her card club. Sandy was proud to be “Mee Mee” to her three grandchildren and loved watching them play sports and perform in ensembles and musicals. She enjoyed Disney as much as the grandchildren and was always up for a board game at the kitchen table. Beginning with a serious health issue in 1993 and continuing until her death, Sandy was plagued with menacing health obstacles. She was still being treated for her latest health issue when testing positive for COVID, and her immune system simply wasn’t strong enough to fight it. Sandy passed away early morning January 19, 2022. Surviving Sandy are her husband of 56 years, Thomas M Anderson; son, Steven T Anderson; daughter, Amy M Woodard; son in law, Michael Woodard; granddaughters Kara and Sydney Woodard; grandson, Blake Woodard; nieces and nephews and many close friends who will cherish the memories of their regular get togethers, cards, and domino games. She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Edith Wampler. Friends may visit the family Tuesday, January 25, 2022 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Alexander West Chapel.
