Shirley L. McPherson

Shirley was an active and long-time member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church. She retired from Welborn Hospital. Shirley enjoyed bowling and played in leagues. She and her husband Paul enjoyed boating and camping at Lake Barkley.

She was raised by her late grandfather, James Ashby, and late aunt, Madeline Ashby. Shirley was also preceded in death by her daughter, Paula Hammond; nephew, Rick Steinkamp; father, McClelland Ashby; mother and step-father, Louise and Johnny Koerner.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 69 years, Paul Edgar McPherson; children, Becky Ruisard (Rod), and Barbara McPherson; siblings, Rita Steinkamp (Ed), Joyce Barber (Randy), Charlie Holland (Rita); grandchildren, Jamie Ruisard Norris (Jeremy), Jennifer and Jessie Ruisard, Anna Preske (Danny), Kristen Hammond Shackleford (Ryan), and James-Paul “JP” Hammond; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Davis, Amelia and Emily Johnson, Sydney and James Preske, Evan and Olivia Shackleford, and Finan Hammond; and nephew, Joe Steinkamp (Joni).

Shirley's funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel, 2200 Mesker Park Drive, Evansville, IN, and officiated by Pastor Terry Gamblin. Entombment will follow in the cemetery.

Friends may visit on Thursday, March 21, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home West, 2100 W. Illinois Street, Evansville, IN, and on Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the cemetery chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Vanderburgh Humane Society or the American Cancer Society.
