She retired from The Evansville State Hospital after 25 years. Shirley was a past president for the AFSCME Local Union 289. She was an artist and enjoyed crafts, boating, and fishing.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Michael E. Reed; sons, Stephen C. Reed, Michael E. Reed; and brother, Don Slate.
She is survived by her son, Randy E. Reed (Renee); sister, Lois Wilkey, brothers, Ken Slate, Ernie Slate, Stephen Slate; and dear friend, George Dearing.
Funeral services were held 1:00 PM Friday, December 29, 2017, at Alexander East Chapel, with Celebrant Carrie Hatchett. Friends visited at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help with final expenses.
