Shirley was born on February 2, 1939, the 9th of 12 brothers and sisters. She was a strong, passionate lady that worked hard to provide for her family. She held many titles over her life; foster parent, babysitter, nurse, security guard, lunch lady, crossing guard, biscuit maker, factory line worker, but the two titles she cherished most were mother and caregiver. Mother did not apply to just her family. It was her nature. Whether it was a meal, a shoulder to cry on, or stern advice to help you walk the right path, she shared her love with everyone. As a caregiver, Shirley took care of many family members and friends who needed help when they were sick or unable to take care of themselves. She did so with no complaint. Only love, compassion, and a will to make things as comfortable as possible in the toughest times.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Charles III, her parents, Daniel and Ethel Myers (Hobbs), as well as her brothers and sisters, Edward Myers, Dorothy Farny, Harold Myers, Danny Myers, Betty Richardson, Kenneth Myers, Margie Myers, Donald Myers, and Joanna Kitch. She is survived by her children, Charles Schefer IV, Carlton Schefer (Beth), and Cate Schefer, her two grandchildren Hayden and Willow, her brother Richard Myers and sister Carolyn Bates.
Shirley will be remembered for her caring ways, her larger-than-life laugh, her sense of humor, and her straight shooter, no nonsense approach to life.
Friends and family are invited to Alexander East Funeral Home on Friday, June 20, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to remember Shirley. A celebration of life ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be held following the service, at Oak Hill Cemetery.
