He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Brenda (Robbins) Leon; children, Abigail Guessfeld, Brian (Rebecca) Leon, Simon Leon III, Brande Leon, Jesse Leon, Jessica (Ryan) Ross, and Sarah Leon; father, Simon Leon Sr.; and sister, Valerie Cole. Simon graduated from Forrest Hills High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan. After graduating he enlisted in the United States Navy, in 1973, where he served aboard the USS Long Beach in the communication division. He was a radioman third class and was honorably discharged in 1977. He was a winner of the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. After starting a family, he went on to further his education, earning a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Evansville in 1989. Most of his work career involved helping veterans as a Disabled Veterans’ Outreach Program specialist. After retiring, he continued his work with veterans as a member of local chapters of AMVETS, DAV, VFW, and the Forty and Eight. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, traveling, watching movies, and rocking out to oldies music. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

A Graveside Service, with military rites, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2022 at Alexander Memorial Park with Pastor Ray Deeter officiating. Family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Alexander North Chapel.
