

She graduated from Reitz High School in 1938 and in 1944 she received a B.S. in Nursing Science from Evansville College and a diploma from Protestant Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing. She earned a B.S. in Education in 1947 and an M.S. in Nursing Education from Indiana University in 1955. She was Director of the School of Nursing and Nursing Services at Deaconess Hospital from 1947-1951. After two years as Lt. JG in the Navy Nurse Corps, she was Clinical Coordinator for the Evansville College-Baptist Hospital School of Nursing and Acting Director of Nursing Service for Baptist Hospital. She was Supervisor of Pediatrics and developed and taught the Nursing of Children Course at Deaconess. After rejoining the University of Evansville Faculty in 1967, she taught Nursing of Children and was active in developing Continuing Education in Nursing on the regional, state and national level.
From 1970-1976 she was a member of the steering committee of the Ohio Valley Regional Medical Programs Project to develop Nursing Inservice and Continuing Education. She was Project Director and Teacher of the School Nurse Practitioner Program for the University of Evansville. She participated in the Indiana Statewide Plan for Continuing Education in Nursing and served as chairperson of the Board of Directors in 1974. She retired from U of E in 1985 as an Associate Professor Emeritus. She held membership in Indiana State Nurses Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, Pi Lambda Theta, Phi Kappa Phi and Alpha Sigma Lambda.
Thelma is survived by a niece, Mary Ann Rudenborg of Martinsville; and nephews, Mark Hanley, John Kent and Joel David of Evansville, Charles Paul of Jasper and James David of Plainfield.
