Obituary of Thomas Edwin Fischer
Thomas E. Fischer, 62, of Evansville, passed away Monday, September 5, 2016, at Deaconess Hospice. He was born June 9, 1954 in Evansville, to Robert N. and Edna C. (Letterman) Fischer. He attended Harrison High School for 3 years, where he ran cross country and then transferred to North High School. He graduated from University of Evansville as a history major. He went to Russia during the Cold War, while attending UE. Thomas was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, holding several offices, most recently as deacon. He volunteered in many capacities there and was known as the head bell ringer. He loved traveling (He was present when the Berlin Wall fell in 1990, bringing home a piece of the wall and was renowned for his knowledge of Ireland, making 16 trips from 1984 to 2015.), and was an avid reader, who was well known at North Park library. Tom also loved rescuing homeless animals, dogs and cats in particular. He loved sprint car races and motorcycles. He attended many sprint car races throughout the Midwest. Sammy Swindell was his favorite driver and he followed him on the World of Outlaws circuit for 40 years. He organized and promoted a concert at Hornville Tavern for the Brian Auger Oblivion Express, of worldwide fame, in June 2007. Tom was a “force of nature”. Thomas is survived by his wife of 31 years, Patricia (Jeffers) Fischer; step-children, Shana (Dave) Patz and Slade (Lindsay) Sutton; grandchildren, Drew Sutton, Delany Rust, Caden Rust, and Harper Patz; brother, Randy (Judy) Fischer; sister, Karen (Mark) Whitehead, nieces, Melani(Anthony) Hensley, Shannon Fischer, Katy (Chris) Parsons, Sarah (Brent) Wittenbraker, and Laura (David) Alexander, nephew, Tod (Tara) Jeffers, and several great nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial Services will be 10:00AM, Friday, September 9, 2016, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 100 E. Michigan Street, officiated by Pastor Chad Eckels. Friends may visit 4:00 to 8:00PM, Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Road.
