Mr. Thomas E. Savage of Evansville, Indiana, peacefully passed away after a long, courageous battle with cancer at the age of 71. He was born on May 16, 1946, in Evansville, Indiana. His heart was always full of passion for his family. His family was his first love and teaching was his second. He was a Math and Physics Instructor for many years. Teaching his students to understand his lessons gave him a great sense of accomplishment. He always taught everyone in life to live outside the box. He was the inventor of the “Purple Cow”.
He strived to make a relationship with anyone he met. He always tried to leave every person with a smile on their face. He truly went above and beyond to help everybody he could. The friendships Tom created through the years were always something he was very proud of. He couldn’t go in public and not know somebody.
For nearly 30 years Tom ran a small, residential remodeling business, Savage Remodeling. He helped and touched many people through his business relationships. There was never a plumbing or electrical problem that he couldn’t or wouldn’t tackle.
In his time, he also enjoyed duck hunting, fishing, and an occasional race in Haubstadt. He graduated from ISU in Terre Haute with degrees in Math and Chemistry. He also attended the University of Wyoming, University of Utah, University of Southern Indiana, University of Evansville, and returned to ISU to finish his Math Masters Degree. He taught students at North High School, ISU, USI, Warrick County, Ivy Tech, and the Early College High School Program for the last five years. He influenced many people through his excessive, schooling and teaching. He earned the award of “Adjunct Teacher of the Year” three times.
He enjoyed many years of attending St. Joe Catholic Church with his family. He showed his passion in his religion as he did in all aspects of his life.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Savage and Mary Fern and brother, Jim Savage
He is survived by his wife, Sandra J. Savage; brother, John Sandefur; and his loving and giving partner, Karen Lee; children, Kimberly (Savage) Fichtinger (fiancée, Ken McDonald) and Zac Savage (Jen); grandchildren, Mason Fichtinger, Taylor Kemper (Jesse) and Erin Fichtinger, Abi Savage and Oliva Savage; great grandchildren, Jordan Kemper and Mya Kemper.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 19th at 3:00pm at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Fr. Ted Tempel, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit Thursday from 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
We would like to show our gratitude to the OHA and their entire staff, especially Dr. Stephens, for all their care and compassion through his battle with cancer. A special thanks to the Linda E. White Hospice House for their loving care and support.
