Obituary of Thomas "Vance" Vogelsang
Thomas "Vance" Vogelsang, 85, of Evansville passed away Saturday February 3, 2024. He was born August 21, 1938 in Queens, NY to the late Arnold Vogelsang and Marian (Cary) Perry. Vance had a rewarding and varied career. He worked as Sports Director at WEHT-TV, Administrative Assistance to Mayor Russell G. Lloyd, News Director for WTVW-TV, Sales Director for Executive Inn, Vice President of Governmental Affairs for the Metropolitan Evansville Chamber of Commerce, and National Director of Government Affairs for American General Finance. He served in the US Navy from 1956 until 1960 as a communications technician with American Forces Network Radio, where he was honorably discharged. Vance met the love of his life, Mary, while serving in Germany - she was stationed there with the Army. He was a member of the Governmental Affairs Society of Indiana, past board member of the Indiana Society of Association Executives, American Financial Services Association and President of the Indiana Consumer Finance Association. Vance was a Commissioned Kentucky Colonel from 1969 until 1992, received the national award for outstanding contribution in 1972 from the American Powerboat Association, the prestigious Sagamore of the Wabash by Governor Robert Orr in 1988 and the Key to the City of Evansville by Mayor Frank McDonald in 1990. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed vacationing in Panama City Beach, an avid NASCAR and Indianapolis Colts fan and was a huge movie buff. He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife of 53 years, Mary (Harrison) Vogelsang. Vance is survived by his son, Ken Vogelsang; daughter, Cary Farthing (Terry); grandchildren, Kaci Thompson (Travis), Kurt Farthing, and Kori Farthing; and great grandchildren, Rosie Thompson, and one on the way in July. Friends and family may visit from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday February 7, 2024 at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Road, Evansville, IN.
