Tommie Eugene Burnett

Tom was born in Fries, Virginia, and later moved with his family to Evansville, Indiana where he married the love of his life, raised his family, and became part of a community he called home.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Peggy in 2008; his parents, Eugene and Thelma Burnett; ten siblings, mother-in-law, Margaret McFarron, and daughter-in-law, Kimberly Burnett.

Tom is survived by his children, Tammie Tuley (Greg), Tommy Burnett (Karen), and Terrie Burnett; grandchildren, Melissa Richmond, Matt Burnett (Molly), Christopher Tuley (Mattie), and Sarah Tuley-Coleman (Matt); great-grandchildren, Keaira and Kason Richmond; his sisters, Betty Sparks and Shirley Green, brother-in-law, Gary McFarron (Jo) and many nieces and nephews.

Tom was a proud United States Navy veteran. Following his military service, he went into business for himself; owning and operating two full-service stations, an Amoco and a Unocal until retirement. However, apparently retirement wasn't quite his thing. After a few months, Tom returned to work as a maintenance technician for the Catholic Diocese where he continued working until he decided it was finally time to retire for good.

Tom was hardworking, honest, and about as down-to-earth as they came. He loved his family, fishing, hunting and playing cards, particularly hand and foot. Sitting still was never really his thing, he enjoyed staying busy. He especially loved telling his "fish tales" and had a knack for making the stories just a little bigger with each telling. Even better, he would get a good laugh when someone actually believed him. He leaves behind a lifetime of stories, memories, and moments to be treasured for generations to come.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the Gentiva Hospice team, Madison, Amber, Kristen, Rhonda, Amanda, Angela, and Kayla, for their kindness, compassion, and support. We will always be grateful for the care they showed him and for being there for all of us during this time.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 22 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Alexander West, 2100 W. Illinois Street, Evansville, IN 47712. Burial will be in Tupman Cemetery where full military honors will be presented.
