Velma Kathleen Berry, 92, of Evansville, IN, passed away on Friday, December 4, 2020, at home with daughter-in-law and caregiver, Jeanie Berry. She was born August 26, 1928, in Huntingburg, Indiana to Frank and Elsie (Beardsley) Sakel.
Velma attended Lockyear School of Business. She retired after a career of working for companies including: INA Insurance, Ashby-Rauscher Insurance and Evansville Insurance Group. Velma was awarded the “Insurance Woman of the Year” in 1978. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church for 65 years, where she was involved in Choir and the US Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Minos F. Berry; parents; sisters, Jeanette Sakel, Inez Sakel, and Marian Clem, brother, John Sakel; and grandson, Jordan Berry.
She enjoyed reading, then later listening to audio books. Well into her retirement, she discovered the fun in rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals.
Survived by sons, Clark (Jeanie) Berry of Evansville and Brad (Cathie) Berry of Vincennes, IN; brother, Don Sakel of Floyd Knobs, IN; grandsons, Deryl Berry, Christopher Berry, Bryan Berry all of Evansville and Joseph Berry of Vincennes, IN; granddaughter, Tabitha (Greg) Williams of Boonville; and so many loved great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held 12:30 p.m. Thursday, December 10, 2020, at Alexander North Chapel and livestreamed at www.facebook.com/FuneralStreamUSA. Pastor Dewey Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
