I just found out that Vernon has passed away.  My condolences to the family.  I met Vernon and his wife Mary back in 2002 when I saw his old Ford pickup and asked him out of the blue to buy it.  Mary and Vernon had that great relationship of people that have been comfortable together a long time.  They were both so welcoming and treated me, a stranger very warmly.  Vernon sold me the truck because he stopped driving.  I still have the truck and a keychain with his name engraved in leather.  A reminder of 2 great people!  R.I.P. Vernon and Mary.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Beal and caring for him in his home. I enjoyed the stories he shared from his youth and military service. He loved God and his family very much.

Although I know Mr. Beal taught basketball to hundreds of kids throughout his 50+ years of coaching, he didn't teach me to be a player.  Instead, he taught me how to be a Christian coach.  In the last several years of his coaching (in his late 70s to early 80s) I helped him run drills in practice and he helped me see what coaching was really about.  For Vernon, it was never about the wins and losses as much as it was about the kidsmaking sure they knew the game of basketball, and more importantly knew the name of Jesus Christ.  I don't remember too many practices where he didn't say how blessed he waseven when he wasn't feeling his best.  He truly loved the Lord and it showed in so much that he did and said.  I know he will be missed by many, but a huge part of him has been left behind in the many lives he touched.

Four of our children were blessed to have Mr. Beal as their church basketball coach.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Vernon .....a GREAT man, father like figure that I had the utmost respect for. So many basketball practices, church nights, and nights spent at his house with his son, a good long time friend of mine. You will be missed and Heaven has gained a great angel.

So sorry for your loss.  I have many fond memories of your dad (and mom) growing up on Bell Avenue and then being our neighbors on Indiana St.

Mr. Beal was my 12th Ave. Church basketball coach. He was a positive role model on a lot of kids- many without fathers at home. He taught us discipline and teamwork. His influence was a blessing to my childhood and I'm forever grateful for having known him.

Vernon was a great man. Always so kind and friendly. Loved kids.  It was an honor and privilege to have known him.

Mr. Beal will be forever remembered as our Basketball Coach for 12th Ave/Westwood.  He has impacted young lives for many years.  His crown will be full!

I have lost another mentor,  life-teacher and  co-father figure.  Vernon was always full of love,  smiles,  Christian wisdom and compassion.  He was a great story teller and Sunday School teacher too.   You knew that he loved being a s Sunday School teacher and that he loved all of us.   I pray that Kenny,  Mark,  Kevin and family have peace and consolation as Vernon now joyfully joins Nell,  Janet and all his family and friends in God's Heavenly Kingdom where there is no longer sorrow nor suffering .  Memory eternal.
