

Vernon L. Bruce of Evansville, Indiana passed away on Saturday March 12, 2022 at the age of 84. Vernon was born on July 14, 1937 in Evansville, Indiana where he grew up on the west side of Evansville.
Vernon graduated from Reitz High School. He worked as an Evansville Police Sergeant for 34 ½ years. Vernon served as a Sergeant in the National Guard from 1956 to 1963.
He loved the Colorado mountains, the St. Louis Cardinals, and a variety of sports.
He was preceded in death by his spouse, Mary Jane Bruce; parents, John and Mary Bruce; sister, Betty Temme; brother, John Wilford Bruce; and sister, Linda Mayes.
Vernon is survived by his son, David L. Bruce (Tina); daughter, Kellie S. Myers (James); sisters, Becky Wortz (Steven) and Donna Bruce; brothers, Mike Bruce (Janice) and Alan Bruce (Marsha); grandchildren, Tanner S. Bruce, Mariah N. Myers (Aries), and Samuel M. Myers; and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
The family would like to thank Evansville Protestant Home for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in his final days.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Rev. Ron Vaughn, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 until service time at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Evansville Fraternal Order of Police.
