Viann Schuessler, 79, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 in Evansville surrounded by her family. She was born in Evansville, Indiana on December 31, 1940 to the late Theodore W. and Audrey A. (Crosby) Kuhlenschmidt.

She was part of the founding families and lifetime member of Bethlehem UCC where she was a member of the church choir, bell choir, numerous church committees, assisted in the church office, and visited shut-ins. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and the Literacy Center. Viann was devoted to her church and family. Although her career was in banking her true calling was being a minister’s wife. Together, she and Gerry served five UCC churches across Indiana and Ohio. Her friends are too many to mention but she especially enjoyed her Knitting Group and Red Hat Society.

Viann was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Rev. Gerald Schuessler; and brother, Ted Kuhlenschmidt.

A devoted and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and mamaw, she is survived by her daughter, Beth Phelps (Jim); son, Curt Schuessler (Catherine); daughter, Jill Prusak; sister, Nancy Dooley (Ruthie); sister-in-law, Susie Kuhlenschmidt; and grandchildren, Nathan Phelps; Mason, William, and Ryan Prusak; Dominik and Solomon Schuessler.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Missions/Outreach at Bethlehem UCC.

Her family would like to thank all her friends, Dr. Edward Fox, the Oncology and Hemotology Group, and Heritage Hospice who shared in her journey.

A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 22, 2020 at Bethlehem UCC officiated by Rev. Emily Slade with burial in Bethlehem Cemetery. Friends may visit Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until service time at the church.

Vi and I worked together at National City Bank, she was a dear friend and a bridesmaid in my wedding 57 years ago. We didn’t see each other often over the years but alway had a wonderful visit when we were together.
Thank you to her children for sharing her journey and I know she and Jerry are happily reunited.

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting the rest of the Schuessler family through her son Curt. From the moment I met Viann I knew she was a kind hearted woman! Besides her great smile , the other thing that I will remember is her homemade pickles and southern fried chicken! It was delicious! Viann leaves behind a great family. She is in heaven now with her husband and I feel she left knowing everyone will be okay. Thank you Viann for having a great family and it was a pleasure knowing you! 🥰

Viann made the Best Popcorn. We went to her house to view "To Kill A Mockingbird". She was a gracious and fun hostess. I will miss her smile especially in front of Church in the Choir. May God Bless you Viann and your family. You were one of a kind and will be remembered as the classy lady you were.
