

Virgil C. Whitehead, 82, of Evansville, formerly of Macon, GA, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at North Park Nursing Home. He was born February 24, 1934, in Wayside, GA, to the late Freeman Hawkins and Blanche (Jones) Whitehead.
He attended Middle Georgia College in Cochran and graduated from Southern Tech in Chamblee, GA. He served in the US Navy during the Korean war. He worked at the Naval Ordnance plant in Macon and also at Warner Robins Air Force base. He later oversaw maintenance for S & S Cafeterias and then co-founded Total Service Company, retiring in 2001. Virgil was very involved at First Presbyterian Church in Macon where he was an Elder and Deacon. He impacted many people’s lives. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, walking and living a healthy lifestyle with his wife.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Hansel Whitehead and sister,Grace Mathes.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nora (Stauber) Whitehead; son, Freeman (Betsy) Whitehead; daughter, Tamah Whitehead; grandchildren, Daniel and Sarah Whitehead, all of Evansville, and nephew, Floyd (Connie) Whitehead, of Wayside, GA.
Funeral Services will be 10:00AM, Monday, February 20, 2017, at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Road, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit 3:00PM to 6:00PM, Sunday, February 19, 2017, at the funeral home.
