He attended Columbia Grade School and Central High School. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the 8th Army, 304th Signal Corp during the Japanese Occupation and was a powerman supplying electricity for the war trials in Tokyo Japan. Walter worked at Capital Paper Co. for 21 years, Kenny Kent for 13 Years He retired from BFI as a master mechanic.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty Jane (Redmond) Chandler; daughter Cindy (Allen) Garrett of Evansville and two sons, Michael Chandler and Mark Chandler of Evansville; sister, Jean Hawkins of Madisonville, KY; grandchildren, Angela Appel, Chance Chandler, Andy Chandler, Justin (Sam) Garrett, Tyler Garrett and Cody Garrett; four great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Alexander West Chapel with burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
