He was a longtime member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church where he served as Treasurer and was ordained as a Deacon in May of 1989. He was employed at Ideal American Dairy for 48 years. Wes was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed following the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved baseball and coached South Little League and Babe Ruth for many years. He served on the board of the Evansville Protestant Home.
Wes was preceded in death by his wife, Doris E. Hopkins; and parents, Forrest and Lona Hopkins.
He is survived by his sons, Duane K. (Sandy) Hopkins, Gary W. (Margie) Hopkins and Timothy L. Hopkins; daughter, Linda S. (Tim) McCalister; grandchildren, Cara, Chad, Kyle, Kelli, Scott and Dan; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister, Colleen Dugan.
The family would like to extend a “thank you” to all the nurses and staff at St. Mary’s, HealthSouth, Signature Healthcare, Evansville Protestant Home and Heritage Hospice.
Funeral Services will be 1:30 PM Saturday, October 18, 2014, at Alexander East Chapel, with entombment in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit Friday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM and Saturday from 11:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Washington Avenue Baptist Church.
