

William “Bill” K. Sonntag, 88, of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at Evansville Protestant Home. He was born June 2, 1927, in Evansville to the late Edward M. and Pauline (Kinkead) Sonntag.
William was a WWII Veteran of the US Navy. He was a longtime member of Historic New Harmony, First Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder, and was a member of the Kennel Club. Bill was a school teacher for 25 years at Harwood and Cedar Hall Schools. He was active in the establishing of Friends of Willard Library. He was a world traveler having visited all 50 states, all Canadian provinces and territories, seven continents, and 94 countries. Bill, an avid kite flyer of single-line kites, flew in 87 countries and the seven continents. In addition to cabinetry work, one of his hobbies was making kite reels.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Robert Evans Sonntag.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marylu (Plane) Sonntag; son, Robert K. Sonntag; niece, Julia (Douglas) Daze; nephew, Edward “Ned” Sonntag; and cousin, Julia McGee Rozel.
Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM Monday, September 14, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church, 609 Southeast Second Street, officiated by Rev. Kevin Fleming, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue, and Monday from 10:00 AM until service time at the church.
