In 1938, Bill married Lillian (Bohleber) and together they had four sons. Bill hauled coal during WWII. He was a building contractor and built over 200 homes in German Township on the west side of Evansville. He was a founding member and President of the German Township Booster Club and a charter member of the German Township Fire Department. He was also an 80 year member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in German Township. He loved fishing, hunting with a compound bow and was an avid outdoorsman. Bill was a beekeeper and read everything he could get his hands on about bees. He loved to garden and tend to his flowers. He was a sports enthusiast and loved the St. Louis Cardinals, Indiana Pacers, Indianapolis Colts, Purdue Boilermakers and the Denver Broncos (when Peyton Manning played). Bill loved to dance and was a lifetime member of the Oaks and Eagles. He played on clabber leagues and liked to quilt with his wife, Lillian. He was famous for his fruit pies and homemade bread. Bill and Lillian wintered in Lake Panasoffkee, FL for a while until Lillian’s health began to fail.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian; sisters, Elizabeth and Ethel; and brothers, Fred, Charlie, Leonard, and Leo; and his parents.
Bill is survived by his sons, Don (Lou Ann Fisher) and Bob (Debbie), both of Newburgh, IN, and Bill (Kathy) of Chandler, IN. He cherished his four grandchildren, Shanna (Matt) Kopshever of Newburgh, IN, Phil (Mindy) of Ponchatoula, LA, Shelly Evans of Newburgh, IN, and Laura (Steve) Ruckman of Evansville, IN. He loved his eight great-grandchildren, Haley, Steven Blake, Tyler and Matt Ruckman, Anastasia and Keven Voegel, Olivia Evans and Katie Kopshever. Bill was proud of his many nephews and nieces.
The Voegel family wishes to thank Deaconess VNA Hospice and Signature Healthcare for the acts of kindness and care given by the staff. We especially appreciate the care and concern from Maria, Linda, Becky, Angie, Rose, Susan, Menchie, Jennifer and Krista. We cannot say enough about the superb care given by Home Instead caregivers, Beccy, Theresa, Courtney, Ally and Julia, who kept in touch with Dad even after he went to Signature.
