

Bill was born August 9, 1923 in Evansville, Indiana. He retired from Whirlpool Corporation in 1988 as an Engineering Technician after 40 years of dedicated service. He also served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves from 1948 to 1955.
He attended grade school at St. Joseph School. He was a long time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vanderburgh County, where he was a member of the Knights of St. John as well as the St. Joe Men’s Club where he was Man of the Year in 1991. He also belonged to Twin Towers, American Legion Funkhouser Post 8, Whirlpool Retirees, and Darmstadt Retirees. He was past Armstrong Township Trustee, served on Board of Directors for Armstrong Recreation Center, and served as a Polling Judge for many years. He was an avid baseball fan and in his youth he loved to hunt, fish and bowl.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Marian (Schneider) Elpers in 1990, his daughter Alice (Elpers) Keil in 2009, his parents Carl B. and Gertrude (Titzer) Elpers, and siblings; Marvin P. Elpers, Charles E. Elpers, Rita (Elpers) Schmitt and Joseph A. Elpers.
He is survived by his children; Elaine Elpers Santone and husband Lawrence of Walnut Creek, California, Donna J. Blythe and husband Thomas of Darmstadt, Indiana and William B. Elpers of Evansville, Indiana; son-in-law, Larry Keil of Evansville, Indiana; sister, Marian (Elpers) Adler of Darmstadt, Indiana; brother, John J. Elpers of St. Wendel, Indiana; nine grandchildren, Jessica Santone, Abigail (Matthew) Lubniewski, Arthur Santone, Katie Blythe, Matthew Blythe, Melissa Blythe, Laura (Ryan) Maurer, Daniel Keil, Emily Keil; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Thursday September 13, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Vanderburgh County with Fr. Eugene Schroeder and Fr. Ted Tempel officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit from 1 to 8 pm at Alexander North Chapel on Wednesday September 12, 2012 where a Rosary will be recited at 6pm. Friends may also visit from 9-10am at Alexander North Chapel on Thursday September 13 with a prayer service at 10am and processional to the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church Vanderburgh County.
