Obituary of Dr. William "Bill" Felsher, Sr.
Dr. William (Bill) Munson Felsher Sr. passed away on the morning of September 3, 2023, of natural causes. Bill was born on Oct 6, 1933, in Biloxi, Mississippi. Bill served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War as a Gunners Mate aboard the minesweeper, USS Firecrest. The first of his family to earn a college degree, he earned his PhD from Louisiana State University in French Literature and was a tenured professor at the University of Evansville. He also studied at the Sorbonne in Paris. He was married to Betty Gale Mizell of Sardis, Mississippi whom he met while attending Mississippi State University over 65 years ago. During his incredible life Bill traveled many times to Europe solo and with his family and students. He ran with the bulls in Pamplona's Festival of San Fermin. He was a multi sport athlete who played basketball in college and coached tennis. He loved University of Evansville Aces basketball, the novels of William Faulkner, and thrift stores. Bill is survived by his wife, Betty; his three sons Kennedy (Janica); Bill Jr. aka “Munson”(Afsi); Jack ; and his daughter , Teresa (Dan Haller). Bill also had fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Bill is also survived by his sister, Janice Seymour of Ocean Springs, Mississippi. He was an unforgettable teacher, a faithful husband and a beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be missed by his family and friends. Friends may visit Thursday September 7, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois, followed by a Graveside service 1:00 p.m. at Alexander Memorial Park, 2200 Mesker Park Drive.
