William “Bill” G. Garrett III, 73, of Evansville passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 after a very hard-fought battle against multiple myeloma. He was born on September 14, 1951 to William G. Garrett Jr. and Mary Ann (Sutton) Garrett-Kinney. He graduated from Castle High School before marrying his wife, Georgia, in 1975. He later received his associate’s degree from the University of Southern Indiana.
In August of 1973, Bill began working as an ironworker. During his long career, he served as both President (1993-2008) and Apprenticeship Coordinator (1998-2005) at Ironworkers Local 103. Bill loved fishing, playing horseshoes, hunting for morel mushrooms, going to the gym, singing, and playing the guitar. Above all else, he loved his grandsons—Will, Wyatt, and Jackson. He was their biggest fan. Despite his battle with cancer, you would see him at all of their events, big or small, championships or day-to-day, and especially anything related to baseball. A devoted grandpa, he was present in every aspect of their lives, and his absence is profound.
Bill had a deep and personal relationship with Jesus Christ, which was the foundation of his life. His faith gave him strength, peace, and purpose, especially throughout his journey with cancer. He was a man of quiet conviction, and he used his guitar as a voice for his soul. In times of hardship and in moments of joy, Bill’s trust in God never wavered. He laid his cancer at the cross. His family takes great comfort in knowing that he is now in the presence of his Savior, fully healed and at peace.
Bill is survived by his wife of 49 years Georgia (Myers) Garrett, daughter Lindsay Halbig (Jason), grandchildren Will, Wyatt, and Jackson; sisters Patsi Hart, Jeannie Johnson, brother David Garrett, sister-in-law Brenda Young (Ron), brother-in-law Jim Myers (Nancy); and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law and father-in-law Barbara and James Myers; brother-in-law Bayly Johnson; and nephews Brock Hertel and Jeff Young.
Services will not be held at this time; a graveside burial will take place at a later date.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation or Miles for Myeloma.
A special thanks to Dr. Abonour, Dr. Chris Braden, Dr. Browning, and Dr. Fox and their nurses as well as the staff at the Medical ICU at IU Medical Center in Indianapolis.
