Bill was a member of Bethlehem Church of Christ, where he was very active in Outreach and led many Mission Trips. He volunteered for United Caring Shelters, serving as President of the Board. He was a member of the North Side Civitan Club. Bill started the current Horace Mann Insurance Agency, and also worked there part-time, after retirement until very recently. He enjoyed being an Uber driver, where he met many people. Bill loved to fish and sharing his fishing knowledge and skills with others.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Jeffrey B. Gilbert.
Bill is survived by his wife, Linda Gilbert; son Scott Staggs (Carrie); daughter, Christy Staggs; grandchildren, Will, Chase, Savannah and Tate; brother, Raymond Gilbert (Patricia); sister, Suzette Gilbert; nephew, Patrick Gilbert (Julianna); niece, Eliza Gilbert; nephew, Skyelar MacLeod (Tara); and nephews. Zachary and Tarik Gilbert.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Browning and staff at Oncology Hematology Associates for their compassionate care of Bill.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
