Obituary of William Allen Hill
William “Bill” A. Hill, 95, passed away at Cypress Grove Rehabilitation Center on October 27, 2018. He was born on September 11, 1923 to the late Pearl and Roy Hill in Princeton, Indiana. Bill worked for the Chrysler Corporation in 1942 as a machine supervisor and again after WWII helping build the first cars after the war. He moved back to Evansville from Houston, TX where he had been a maintenance supervisor for the Missouri Pacific Bus Lines. He was a 25-year employee of the Alvey-Scott Motors of Evansville. He started as a diesel mechanic and worked in several other positions in the service department including warranty and general service managers before the company closed. He retired from Cabool Leasing, Inc. He was in the department of maintenance when the Missouri based company opened the Evansville Branch. Bill was a WWII Navy Veteran. He helped land troops ashore during the invasion of Normandy in France. Later he was transferred to a ship repair base on Manicani Island, Philippines, overhauling diesel engines for the fleet until his discharge. Bill is a decorated World War II veteran. His military medals include: Asiatic-Pacific Campaign, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign with 1 star, American Campaign, Philippine Liberation, Philippine Independence, World War II Victory Medal, and French Liberte Commendation. His theatres of operation include: LCI 510-Asiatic-Pacific and European-African-Middle Eastern. He was a Lifetime member of VFW Post 1114 in Evansville. Bill enjoyed swimming, golfing, watching IU football and basketball games and St. Louis Cardinals games. Bill was a charter member of the North Side Congregational Church and longtime member of Old North United Methodist Church. Bill was predeceased by his wife, Betty Elshoff Hill in 2015; son-in-law, Peter Mulvey; sister, Mary Frances Eldridge and brothers-in-law, Norman Price and Fred Eldridge. Bill is survived by daughters, Linda H. Mulvey of Lake Forest, IL, Vickie L. Shelton (Darrel) of Newburgh and Deborah A. Jackson (Jeffrey F.) of Evansville; son, Stephen W. Hill of Evansville; grandchildren, Patrick and Shannon Mulvey, Ryan and Derek Shelton, Whitney Shelton Robey, Matthew and Luke Hill; great-grandchildren, Blake and Gage Shelton, Mya, Ava and Jax Shelton, Madison, Hunter and Easton Robey and Avery Hill; sister-in-law, Patsy Price of Terre Haute, and cousins, nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the ENTIRE staff of Cypress Grove Rehabilitation Center for their loving care during the last 5 years of Bill’s life where he was a resident, the ENTIRE staff at Southern Care Hospice Service for their care and guidance during the last months of Bill’s life and to Dr. Nalin and his nurse practitioner, Emily. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Alexander North Chapel, officiated by Pastor Tom Hubachek, with entombment in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Friday, November 2, 2018 and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to VFW Post 1114-Chaplain’s Relief Fund, 110 N.
