William F. Norris 96, of Evansville, IN passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at West River Health Campus surrounded by his family.
William F. Norris 96, of Evansville, IN passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at West River Health Campus surrounded by his family. He was born in Sturgis, KY on January 2, 1923 to the late William F. Norris and Annie (McCarty) Norris.
He was a WWII Veteran, serving in the Navy aboard the USS Anzio. He was awarded a Purple Heart and the Asiatic- Pacific Medal with nine Bronze Stars. Upon return from his Naval service, Bill worked at Bucyrus-Erie, later retiring from the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 108. He was a member of the Poseyville American Legion Post 0278. Bill proudly flew aboard the Honor Flight of Southern Indiana in April 2016. Bill was a ham radio operator; his call sign was N9BOY. He enjoyed fishing and playing the harmonica.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Doris; brother, Jack Norris; sisters, Francis Martin, Margaret Kramer, Muriel Wilhelmi; grandsons, Daniel and Garrett Barker.
William is survived by his daughters, Carol Brooks (Charles), Diana Barker and Melody Patton (Steven); sons, William K Norris (Irma) and Mark Norris (Debbie); grandchildren, Sheila Norris, William Norris, Steven Norris (Debbie), Cassandra Norris, Kim Martin (Todd), Chuck Brooks (Lisa), Jeff Brooks (Melissa) Danielle Brooks (Jeff), Beau Brooks, Bob Barker, Becky Norris, Mark D. Norris (Coral), Joseph Schmitt, Alyssa Schmitt, KD Patton, Stephanie Patton; 16 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Paul Norris; brothers in law, Harvey Kramer and Gary Hasten (Connie); sister in law, Louise Hasten; and good friend “Amigo” Bill Grisham.
The family would like to thank the staff at West River Health Campus, especially Mark Kempf, Steven Steele, Liz Patrick, Janet Stephens and Janet Johnson, also special thanks to Heritage Hospice for their care.
A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at Alexander West Chapel. Friends may visit 4-7 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2019 at the funeral home.
