

Clarence Ashley Richey passed away peacefully at home on August 25th at the age of 88. He is survived by Ann, his wife of 70 years, daughter Susan Gottselig (Len) daughter -in-law Laurel Harrington (Ken) and grandchildren Matthew (Diemmi), Stephen and Karen (Michael). He was predeceased by son John. He enjoyed being with his in-laws, nieces, nephews and five great-grandchildren.
Clarence was born in Phoenix, Arizona and moved to Washington in the 1940s. In 1943, Clarence joined the Air Force and after attending officers training became a pilot. In 1944, Clarence married Ann Krohn of Everett, the love of his life.
After his discharge in 1946, Clarence and Ann returned to Everett where John and Susan were born. The young family then moved to eastern Washington where Clarence was an engineer on the Coulee Dam Project. In 1953, Clarence accepted a position in Ethiopia where the family spent 7 years while Clarence worked on the KoKa Dam Project. He was an avid photographer who documented their travels and adventures with thousands of slides and photographs.
Upon returning to Everett in 1960, Clarence completed his Associates Degree in Engineering at Everett College and attended the University of Washington. He worked for Reed Middleton Engineering and then founded King and Richey Engineering & Land Surveying. In 1974, Clarence joined Lockheed Shipbuilding where he worked until he retired in 1985.
Clarence had an active retirement including RV travel, flying model airplanes, sea kayaking, and water color painting. He also worked out regularly and enjoyed the camaraderie of the gym.
His family will remember him most for his dependability, self-confidence, commitment to & love of family. He loved travel and adventure and had a great sense of humor. He was a role model for the whole family and believed that anything you want to do is possible.
Viewing will be held at Evergreen Funeral Home, 4504 Broadway, Everett on Thursday August 28 from 2-5 pm. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Clarence’s life at the Holiday Inn, 3501 Pine Street, Everett on Friday, August 29 from 3-5 pm.
