Dean Eugene Knight, 80, of Everett, died suddenly February 27, 2014. Dean was born in McPherson, Kansas on April 10, 1933 to Homer Knight and Della Knight (Pritchard). Dean, a Washington native since a child, went to schools in the Lowell area of Everett, graduating from Everett High School in 1953. After graduation, he married Barbara Vaughn, and worked at Simpson Paper Mill for a year before enlisting in the U.S. Navy, where he was injured. While in the Navy, Dean attended school in Norfolk, Virginia, becoming a 2nd Class Pipefitter. In 1955, he was released from the Navy with an Honorable Discharge. After getting married to Linda Knight (Taylor) December 8, 1962, Dean furthered his education at Everett Junior College by becoming a Journeyman Machinist. He went on to work at Everett Sound Machine Works for 33 years, becoming their Shop Steward, and retiring in March of 1994. Dean was also a 50 year member of the Machinist Union, I.A.M and A.W., serving as President of Local #130 for approximately 17 years, which he was so proud of.
Dean had a love of many things; he loved getting together with the guys for coffee every week, watching the History channel, anything to do with submarines, restoring and cruising in his antique cars, good food, white undershirts, lively card games, Monday night football, composing the annual Christmas letter and above all, his family. He was also a talented welder, and could fabricate almost anything out of metal or wood, which his wife and daughter lovingly took advantage of through the years. His grandchildren were the lights of his life, and he took such joy into taking them to the movies and playgrounds, hiding Easter eggs (equal amount for each!), and sharing stories about them to any and all that would listen. He was the most authentic man you would ever meet, and he was very “old school”, his handshake was his bond.
He is survived by his loving wife and constant companion of 51 years, Linda Knight, and daughter, Deana Knight-Rodriguez (Ruben). He also survived by his Grandchildren Sara Heltemes (Matthew), Kevin, Cassidy and Gabriella Rodriguez. sister Virginia Standerfer (Gary), Nephews Michael, Dean, and Kevin Standerfer, and Niece Vicky Chase. Sister-in-law Paula Salzbrun (Larry), and Nieces Kerri Salzbrun and Gina Hart (Mark). Dean will be missed by many friends and family too numerous to list, but not forgotten.
