Born in Minneapolis on March 23, 1923, Jeanne Annette Hendricks found her way from Minnesota to Seattle Washington, where she lived with her Norwegian grandparents during her formative years. She graduated from Queen Ann High School, and then met her husband of 62 years, Daniel A. Lagozzino, at a dance.
After marrying, they moved to Portland Oregon while he went through medical school and served in World War II. Jeanne enjoyed working at a little floral shop where she cultivated her keen interest in flowers. After the war, and following Dan's graduation, they settled in Everett, Washington.
After starting their family, Jeanne became active in the Providence Hospital Children’s Association and the Providence Foundation, devoting over 40 years of volunteer service. Jeanne also volunteered at the Assistance League, and Immaculate Conception Parish where she also served as the school's PTA President. She spent many years supporting numerous civic activities, including serving as campaign chairperson for a former City of Everett Mayor-Elect, fundraising chairperson for the Everett Performing Arts Center, and initiating, as co-chairperson, the first Everett Boys Club Auction. For many years, Jeanne was a golfing member of the Everett Golf and Country Club, and a life member (over 50 years) of the Everett Women's Book Club.
Jeanne raised one son and five daughters. She was an accomplished seamstress, creating many beautiful dresses and gowns for herself and her daughters for proms, holidays and special events. With the help of her children, she planted beautiful gardens, tending to roses, perennials, tomatoes, beans, and peas; and raspberries and strawberries for her jams. She learned to become a wonderful, creative cook, trying out many new recipes on her family, which they attempt to recreate to this day.
Her love of family led her to host family birthday parties and all major family holiday gatherings. She taught the importance of family and friendship, and the celebration of life, community, and the Earth. She delighted in her growing family of grandchildren and great grandchildren—attending their functions, traveling to their home destinations, and sharing her adventures to Asia, Bali, Europe and Canada, besides many of the States.
Her loving husband Daniel preceded her in death. She devoted herself to caring for him in his last years of life, giving totally of herself, as always. Following his death, she cruised to Alaska with her daughters, a destination evoking fond memories of past cruises she had enjoyed with Dan. Jeanne lived a life of grace and generosity, and then left this Earth to join her husband and her Lord on Sunday evening, October 14, 2012.
Jeanne was preceded most recently in death by her husband Dr. Daniel Lagozzino, and leaves the following behind: Daughters - Danica Cullen (Brian), Gail Hoekendorf (Rick), Barbara Cummins (Robert), Patricia Ward (Michael), Gina Boling (George), and her son John Lagozzino (Terri), numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, and many close friends and extended family members.
Private family interment will be at Floral Hills in Lynnwood. A public memorial mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, 2501 Hoyt, Everett on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 11:00am, with a reception following in Mattie Hall.
The family gives heart-felt thanks to the caregivers at Sunny View Adult Family Home in Lynnwood for their devoted and loving care, and wishes to thank the Snohomish County Providence Hospice South County team for their comfort and assistance in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her name to Providence General Children's Association or Providence Hospice and Home Care of Snohomish County.
