Margaret Bernice Staswick Ungar passed away June 3, 2011 at the age of 91. She was born December 15, 1919 in Silvana, WA to Edward and Minnie Staswick. The next year the family returned to Swan’s Trail, near Snohomish WA, where her father had previously begun to establish a farm. She spent the remainder of her childhood there. Margaret was an integral part of the family farm and learned the value of hard work at an early age. She attended Swan’s Trail Grade School and graduated from Everett High School in 1938. She was a member of Swan’s Trail Lutheran Church, where she was confirmed in 1933. Margaret was proud of her 100 percent Norwegian heritage.
As a young adult, Margaret attended business school in Everett, which prepared her for a variety of jobs in future years, including several years at Local Loan in Everett. In 1944 she married Henry Patrick (Hank) Ungar at Swan’s Trail Lutheran Church. Margaret enjoyed the adventure that Hank’s Coast Guard and Army career brought, when they lived in Anchorage, Bermuda, Japan, and Thailand. They eventually settled in Pennsylvania, his home state until retirement, and then moved back to Everett, Washington in 1986 to be near Margaret’s family.
Margaret is remembered by her family as being cheerful, friendly, classy, and organized. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Hank, her brother Sid, and sisters Evelyn and Inez. She is survived by her loving sister and best friend Thelma “Tina” Costle, brother-in-law Dallas Butler, and many nieces and nephews who admire her deeply.
Graveside services will be Thursday, June 9, at 12:00PM at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, and a service of remembrance will follow at 2PM at Purdy and Walters with Cassidy, 1702 Pacific Ave., Everett, 425-252-2191, purdy-walters-cassidy.com.
