

Michael Lee Hammond, 65, of Everett, passed away on August 25, 2010. He was born on March 8, 1945 in Pittsfield, Illinois to Mike G. and Ruth E. Hammond. After graduating from St Edwards Seminary in Kenmore WA, he served his country in the US Navy from 1966-1970 working on a nuclear decontamination team and a submarine tender on the USS Sperry in the Pacific. Michael earned his Bachelor of Science from Seattle University, Summa Cum Laude in 1975 in Police Science and Administration and was hired by the Everett Police Department in January of 1971. For 25 years, Michael served his community in law enforcement, retiring as a Lieutenant in 1996. He then moved on to Snohomish County Department of Emergency Management as a program specialist that later led Michael to FEMA. He served as the US Department of Homeland Security Technological Hazards Program Officer and Radiological Emergency Preparedness Program.
Along with his love for reading, playing golf and travel, Michael also volunteered and served on the board of Refugee & Immigrant Services Northwest, All City Credit Union and Everett Animal Shelter. Recently, Michael spent many hours volunteering at the Knights of Columbus and Cancer Care Alliance.
Married 38 years, Michael is survived by his wife, Jill, son, Joel and daughter, Janel. Michael leaves a large family, including parents, Mike G. /Helen Hammond, Ruth Hammond, siblings Steve and Tom Hammond, Mari Edgekoski, Sharon Wandler, brother and sisters-in-laws, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Michael’s memory to Everett Animal Shelter, 333 Smith Island Rd, Everett, WA. A memorial of Michael’s life will be celebrated with family and friends, September 18, 2010 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 8517-7th Ave SE, Everett at 11:00am. Reception to follow.
