Oneita Kay Owenby

Oneita Kay Owenby (née Guthrie), 65 of Everett, WA passed away suddenly on March 2, 2014. Oneita was born on October 7th, 1948 in Cashmere, WA to Ernest and Velma Guthrie. Oneita graduated from Cashmere High School in 1966 and was married to Marc Owenby on July 21, 1973, recently celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary.

Oneita worked as a dental assistant in Seattle to Dr. Gilbert for many years and then took some time out of the workforce to be a stay at home mom to her two children.

While her children were young, Oneita began working for Everett School District at Jackson Elementary for twelve years as a Parapro and reading specialist. She loved to read to the children and teach them how to read. While working for the school Oneita received the Golden Acorn Award, which was a huge honor and cherished recognition.

In 1994 Oneita began working as an Administrative Assistant at First Baptist Church of Everett, working for another twelve years before retiring in 2006 in anticipation of the birth of her twin grandchildren that would become her most cherished ‘career’.

While enjoying life as a grandmother, Oneita was not only a life partner with her husband but a business partner as well, helping to build her husband’s automotive repair shop, ONB Automotive in Everett, WA. Marc was so happy to retire early and spend the last three years of Oneita’s life with her daily where they spent their time traveling, enjoying summers at Lake Chelan with family, and spending time with their children and grandchildren. Oneita was an avid book lover, movie watcher, Seahawks fan, and cancer survivor.

Oneita is survived by her father Ernest Guthrie, mother-in-law Bess Odegard, sister-in-law Linda Martin (Bob); siblings JR Guthrie (Kathy), Jim Guthrie, D’Lynn Davis (Aaron); Children Zach Owenby and Megan (Jason) Bjazevich (née Owenby), grandchildren Aiden and Madison Bjazevich, and her husband, the love of her life, Marc Owenby.
