Ted Jensen, age 97, passed away peacefully at home and went to the Lord on January 13, 2012. He was born in Frazee Minnesota, June 26, 1914 to Theodore and Ida Jensen. Ted was raised and schooled in Everett. Ted graduated from Everett High in 1933. That year, as captain of the football team, EHS won the State Championship. Ted loved all high school activities with his life long friend, Stan Mitchell. Ted and Stan’s families have continued that friendship. Ted was a member of the National Guard, Elks Lodge, Knights of Columbus, and St. Vincent De Paul Society.
Dad sure loved his sports. He attended many of his kid’s, grandkid’s, and great-grandkid’s sporting events.
Dad was a big fan of the Sonics, Mariners and the Seahawks. He wore his team’s hats proudly. You would see dad wearing his Everett Fire hat as well. Dad took pride in his 34 years of service with the Everett Fire Department. One of his fondest memories was helping to restore one of Everett’s first horse drawn fire engines, which is on display today at Everett Station # 5. Through his years of service, he risked his life several times to save victims. He always put others first. He truly was our hero! He was badly burned in 1960 trying to save four children in a fire. We almost lost dad then, but God had more plans for him to continue sharing his goodness with others. His volunteer work was endless. It wasn’t until he was in his early nineties that he had to end his 40 + years helping the poor and homeless through St. Vincent De Paul Society.
Dad had many passions in life. All you would have to do is drive by his home to see he loved gardening. If it wasn’t raining outside, you would find him in his yard, mowing, trimming or planting flowers. He enjoyed the outdoors, as well as the “Hi Ted, looking good!” yells from his neighbors. In 1999, he was awarded the Monte Cristo Award for pride in his home. Being healthy, being fit, had always played an important role in his life. Riding his bike around N. Everett, working out with his weights or riding his recumbent bike inside the house always made him feel great. However, dad’s greatest passion was his children, and grandkids. He always greeted us with a smile and a kiss. He made you feel special.
Ted proudly raised his children; Frances Trosvig (Chuck) of Everett, Ted Jensen (Stephanie) of Goodyear AZ, Steve Jensen (Kathy) of Everett, Sue Aaby (Pat) of Everett. He had 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Ted is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Rose (Martinis) Jensen; brothers, Charles and Robert. He is also survived by his sister, Ida Meyer.
We will all miss you “Grandpa Ted”, but your legacy lives on.
