1959 - 2010
Theresa was born July 29, 1959 in Moses Lake, Washington to John J. and Louise Darmody, joining her older “Air Force brat” siblings; Michael, Debbi and John P. on the usual tour of duty. It took her to Tacoma; Bermuda; Rantoul, Illinois and Redlands, California.
She graduated from Redlands High School in 1977 and from Crafton Hills Community College in 1980. In 1987 her employer, Mervyns, transferred her to Bellevue to help open a new store.
She was married in 1988 to Dean Tougas, a friend of her brother Michael. She made a home with Dean in Lynnwood, WA. But she was restless raising her three children; Robert, Emma and John on a cul-de-sac. She finally found the nostalgic, historic and welcoming neighborhood she was looking for in Everett. And there, she put down roots.
All along, though, her family roots were deeply grounded in her Irish heritage. This Irish lass fulfilled her dream of visiting the old sod in 2006 and the Darmody family plots in Indiana in 2008.
Since 2000 she has valiantly battled against cancer with graceful strength. And she never gave in to it. Instead, she placed herself in the hands of the Lord her God, who has now brought her home to be with her Daddy and brother John who preceded her into His kingdom.
She is deeply missed by her children; Robert, Emma and John; mother Louise and siblings Michael Darmody and Debora Navoy and husband Edward; nieces Jessaca Lapham and Kirsten Navoy, and nephews Shaun Lapham and Jason Navoy, plus many more on the “Tougas side;” not to mention the many aunts, uncles and cousins in her immediate and extended family.
Rosary will be at 2:00 p.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 17, 2010, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 2617 Cedar Ave., Everett WA 98201 under the direction of Purdy & Walters with Cassidy Funeral Home, Everett, WA.
